Headache when moving your eyes

Long periods of reading or screen use can tighten focusing muscles and cause an ache around the eyes, often with dryness or blurred focus that improves with rest. Allergic Rhinitis, a Common Cold, or Chronic Sinusitis may create pressure around the forehead, cheeks, or eyes; congestion and facial tenderness can support that explanation. COVID-19 and Dengue Fever can cause headache with a wider illness pattern such as fever, body aches, or marked fatigue. Pain deep behind one eye, eye redness, light sensitivity, double vision, or reduced vision needs direct assessment rather than self-diagnosis.

Note whether moving one eye or both triggers pain, whether the eye itself is red, and whether sight changes. These observations are more useful than the pain score alone.

Pause close work, blink often, and use comfortable lighting. Rest your eyes without rubbing them, and remove contact lenses if they cause discomfort. Treat a blocked nose with measures you normally tolerate, and drink fluids if you may be dehydrated. Avoid driving if vision is blurred or double. Seek a clinician's advice if eye-movement pain persists, returns, or is joined by eye redness, fever, or any change in sight.

Seek emergency care for sudden vision loss, severe eye pain, a red eye with nausea or vomiting, new double vision, weakness, confusion, seizure, a stiff neck with fever, or a sudden severe headache. Prompt assessment is also needed for pain after an eye injury or for fever with severe headache and worsening illness.
