Headache only on the right side

Migraine can be one-sided and may cause throbbing pain, nausea, light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, or visual symptoms. Tension from the neck, scalp, shoulders, or jaw may be felt mostly on the right, particularly after prolonged posture or clenching. Congestion, sneezing, facial pressure, or cough can accompany Allergic Rhinitis, Chronic Sinusitis, or a Common Cold. Heat, low fluid intake, missed meals, disrupted sleep, and emotional strain are other possible contributors. Try slow shoulder and neck movement, relaxed jaw positioning, or a cool cloth on the painful area. If an over-the-counter pain reliever is appropriate, use it according to the package directions. Check with a pharmacist first if you are pregnant, have stomach, kidney, or liver disease, take blood thinners, or use other medicines. Write down the time, triggers, symptoms, and response so repeated episodes can be assessed.

Seek emergency help for a sudden explosive headache, new weakness or numbness, difficulty speaking, confusion, fainting, seizure, major vision change, fever with a stiff neck, or repeated vomiting. Get urgent assessment for headache after a significant injury, severe painful red eye, or worsening illness with heat exposure. Arrange a medical appointment when right-sided pain is new, recurrent, progressively worse, unusually persistent, or limiting work, sleep, or daily activities.
