Headache near eyebrows: what should you know?

Pressure over the brow with a blocked or runny nose, facial tenderness, reduced smell or thick mucus can occur with Allergic Rhinitis, a Common Cold or Chronic Sinusitis. Fever, body aches, cough or a recent exposure may point to an infection such as COVID-19. Thirst, a dry mouth, dark urine or dizziness can accompany Dehydration, while heat exposure with weakness or heavy sweating can occur with Heat Exhaustion. Stress, jaw clenching and long periods of close work may produce a tight band or aching across the forehead. The location alone cannot identify the cause.

Rest in a cool, quiet room and drink fluids gradually. A cool cloth over the forehead may ease discomfort. If nasal blockage is present, saline nasal care and avoiding smoke or known allergens may help. Take screen breaks, relax the jaw and keep a regular sleep pattern. Use any pain medicine only as directed on its label and check with a pharmacist if you are pregnant, have another illness or take regular medicines. Record triggers, associated symptoms and how long each episode lasts.

Seek urgent help for a sudden, severe headache, new weakness or numbness, confusion, fainting, a seizure, stiff neck with fever, repeated vomiting, vision loss, or a painful red eye. Get prompt medical advice after a head injury, during pregnancy, or when headache comes with a high fever or a spreading rash. Arrange a routine review if headaches keep returning, change pattern, interfere with work or sleep, or do not settle with simple measures.
