Headache in the temples and eyes: what it may mean

Pressure on both sides after long screen use or jaw clenching can fit tension or strain. Pulsing pain with nausea or sensitivity to light may fit a migraine pattern. Blocked or runny nose can point toward nasal or respiratory illness, while thirst, dark urine, heat, or dizziness can accompany dehydration. These patterns overlap, and the location alone cannot establish a diagnosis.

Pause close-up work, blink often, adjust glare, and rest your eyes. Drink water and eat if you have gone without food. Relax the jaw and shoulders, and use a cool compress over closed eyes. Keep a diary of sleep, screens, foods, congestion, light exposure, and pain features. Arrange an eye check if reading or distance vision is blurred or eye discomfort continues.

Get urgent help for sudden severe pain, a red painful eye, new vision loss, confusion, fainting, weakness, difficulty speaking, fever with a stiff neck, or headache after a significant injury. Seek prompt review for a new pattern, steadily worsening pain, repeated vomiting, or pain that repeatedly wakes you. Do not drive if vision is impaired.

Ask whether the pattern suggests migraine, tension, sinus or eye-related causes, and whether you need an eye examination or blood-pressure check. Bring your symptom diary and list any pain medicines, because frequent use can itself maintain headaches.
