Headache and Vomiting Without Fever

Headache and vomiting without fever can still require medical attention, because fever is not needed for dehydration, migraine, or urgent illness. Rest safely, pause food while actively vomiting, then try frequent small sips. Consider how suddenly the headache began and whether there are neurological, abdominal, or hydration warning signs.

Migraine may cause vomiting without fever, especially with throbbing pain, light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, or a visual warning. Dehydration, heat exhaustion, anxiety, medication effects, and food-related illness may also fit. Sinus inflammation or a common cold can cause headache and nausea even when temperature is normal. COVID-19 and dengue fever are not excluded by the absence of fever, particularly early or in an individual who does not develop one. The complete symptom pattern matters more than one temperature reading.

Stay somewhere cool and quiet, and avoid driving if dizzy or weak. Take tiny sips of water or oral rehydration fluid after vomiting settles. Try a light snack when you can keep drinks down. Follow a prescribed migraine plan if you have one, but avoid repeated or combined pain medicines without checking directions. Record the headache onset, vomiting episodes, fluid intake, urine changes, possible food or medicine triggers, and whether movement or light affects the pain. Seek advice if symptoms do not settle.

Seek emergency care for a sudden severe headache, confusion, fainting, seizure, new weakness, trouble speaking, stiff neck with serious illness, blood in vomit, severe abdominal pain, or inability to keep fluids down. Prompt assessment is needed for a new or worsening pattern, symptoms after a head injury, severe dizziness, very little urine, or concern about pregnancy. A normal temperature does not cancel these warning signs.

Ask whether migraine, dehydration, medicines, or another cause best fits the pattern, which treatment is safe for you, and how long to try home care. Mention any recent travel, heat exposure, illness contacts, pregnancy possibility, and neurological symptoms.
