Headache and feeling cold but no fever

A cold sensation or mild chills can happen before a temperature rises, but it can also follow being in air conditioning, missing meals, poor sleep, or emotional strain. A blocked or irritated nose may point toward Allergic Rhinitis or Chronic Sinusitis, while cough, sore throat, or body aches can accompany a Common Cold or COVID-19. Dark urine, dry mouth, dizziness, or reduced urination can suggest Dehydration. Anxiety can cause shaking, muscle tension, and a pressure-type headache. The symptoms alone cannot identify one cause.

Check your temperature with a reliable thermometer if you feel unwell, and record when the headache began, where it hurts, and any new symptoms. Rest in a comfortable room, drink fluids regularly, and eat a light meal if you have not eaten. Dress for comfort rather than overheating. Reduce screen glare and avoid alcohol. Use a usual over-the-counter pain reliever only if it is suitable for you and follow its label; ask a pharmacist if you have pregnancy, stomach, kidney, liver, or medicine concerns.

Seek urgent medical help for a sudden severe headache, confusion, fainting, a stiff neck, new weakness or numbness, trouble speaking, repeated vomiting, a seizure, or difficulty breathing. Arrange prompt clinical advice if a fever develops and the illness is worsening, if you cannot keep fluids down, or if the headache is new and persistent. People with weakened immunity or a serious long-term condition should use a lower threshold for assessment.
