Hand stretch marks: what to know

Stretch marks, also called striae, may begin as pink, red, purple, or darker lines and gradually become lighter or silvery. They can follow rapid changes in body size, muscle development, growth, pregnancy, or medicines that affect the skin. Hands are less typical than areas such as the arms, hips, or abdomen, so new marks should be examined if the cause is unclear, they are widespread, or the skin is unusually thin or bruises easily.

Use a plain moisturiser for comfort and to reduce friction, but do not expect creams to rebuild altered dermal tissue. A dermatologist can assess the colour, age, texture, and skin tone before discussing options. Microneedling, fractional laser treatment, RF microneedling, or carboxytherapy may be considered in selected cases. These procedures stimulate a healing response and usually require a planned course, with temporary redness or swelling possible. Sun protection helps limit colour contrast during recovery.

Book an assessment for marks that appear suddenly without a clear body change, spread quickly, or occur with weakness, easy bruising, or other unusual symptoms.
