Hair Breakage Along the Part

Short, uneven hairs at the part may be snapped strands rather than hair released from the root. Frequent straightening, bleaching, tight parting, rough brushing, or rubbing against bedding can weaken the exposed shaft. A widening part, smooth bare areas, tenderness, scale, crusting, or broken hairs close to the scalp points toward a scalp or follicle problem that needs examination. Tight styles can cause Traction Alopecia, while itching and scaling with broken hairs can occur with Scalp Ringworm.

Loosen styles that pull on the part and change where the hair is parted. Reduce hot tools and chemical processing while the hair recovers; use a gentle cleanser, conditioner, and a wide-tooth comb, beginning at the ends. Pat hair dry instead of twisting it, and avoid picking at flakes. Take a clear photo of the part and note recent styling changes, scalp symptoms, and whether hairs have a white bulb or a blunt snapped end.

Arrange a dermatology visit if the part is steadily widening, the scalp is painful or inflamed, or breakage comes with marked itch, scaling, crusts, or patches of missing hair. Seek prompt assessment for pus, spreading redness, fever, or sudden extensive loss. Early evaluation can distinguish cosmetic shaft damage from a condition affecting the scalp or follicles.
