Gryphon suture anchor: what to know

During repair, the anchor is placed in bone and carries strong sutures. The sutures are passed through tissue such as a tendon, labrum, or other stabilising structure, then tied or secured so the tissue is held against its intended attachment area while healing occurs. The anchor is part of a repair; it does not replace rehabilitation or correct every source of pain.

The exact device choice depends on the tissue, bone quality, tear pattern, surgical approach, and the surgeon’s technique. Similar principles may be used in Labral Repair, Meniscus Repair, Rotator Cuff Repair, or Shoulder Stabilisation Surgery.

Follow the written restrictions for the repaired body part. A sling, brace, crutches, or limits on lifting may protect the repair early on. Rehabilitation often progresses from safe movement to strengthening and then task-specific activity, with timing tailored to the tissue that was repaired. Do not test the repair by lifting, stretching, or returning to sport ahead of the plan, even if the skin wounds look settled.

Keep dressings and incisions clean as instructed, attend follow-up appointments, and report medication concerns rather than changing treatment independently. The presence of an anchor does not by itself predict how quickly function will return.

Contact the surgical team promptly for increasing wound redness, drainage, fever, worsening swelling, uncontrolled pain, new numbness, or a sudden loss of movement. Seek urgent help for severe chest pain, breathing difficulty, or a cold or discoloured limb. A fall, forceful movement, or new catching sensation after repair should also be reported so the repair can be assessed.

Ask which tissue is being repaired, why this anchor is appropriate, what movements are restricted, and how the rehabilitation stages will be judged. Clarify wound care, sleeping and driving guidance, warning signs, and when work, lifting, swimming, or sport may be reconsidered.
