What should you know about granulomatous mastitis meaning?

This condition is inflammatory rather than a simple blocked duct. It may cause a firm area, swelling, warmth, redness, breast pain, or changes in the skin. Some people also notice drainage from an opening in the skin. The name describes what tissue looks like under a microscope; it does not by itself explain why the inflammation started.

Granulomatous mastitis can look similar to bacterial mastitis, an abscess, or a breast tumour on examination or imaging. Clinicians may therefore combine your history, examination, imaging, and sometimes a tissue sample before settling on the diagnosis.

Arrange a breast assessment, especially if a lump, redness, or pain is new or persistent.
