Short answer

Good products for oily skin cleanse excess sebum gently, hydrate without a heavy feel, and avoid clogging pores or irritating the skin.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Cleanse
Gently with lukewarm water
Moisturise
Choose a light non-comedogenic formula
Avoid
Abrasive scrubs and over-washing

What oily skin can signal

Oily skin reflects increased sebum on the surface, often most noticeable across the forehead, nose, and chin. It can occur on its own, but persistent shine with clogged pores or inflamed spots may accompany Acne or Hormonal Acne. Greasy scale around the scalp, eyebrows, nose, or ears may fit Seborrheic Dermatitis instead. Skin that feels tight after washing is being stripped, not necessarily cleaned better.

Build a workable routine

Use a gentle foaming or gel cleanser with lukewarm water, then apply a light, non-comedogenic moisturiser. Choose sunscreen and makeup labelled non-comedogenic when possible, and remove makeup before sleep. Blotting papers can reduce surface shine without repeated washing. If pores or spots persist, a clinician may suggest salicylic acid, a topical retinoid, or another targeted option. Introduce one change at a time; alcohol-heavy toners, abrasive scrubs, and frequent washing can worsen irritation and rebound discomfort. Prescription isotretinoin is a supervised option for selected severe acne, not a routine product for oiliness.

When a review is useful

Seek dermatology advice if oiliness comes with painful spots, scarring, persistent redness, thick scale, or a sudden change after starting a medicine. Get urgent help for facial swelling, widespread blistering, or breathing difficulty after a product. A clinician can distinguish ordinary Oily Skin from Acne, Hormonal Acne, or Seborrheic Dermatitis and tailor treatment.

Questions for your doctor

Could my skin changes be acne, hormonal acne, or seborrheic dermatitis? Which cleanser and moisturiser suit my skin? Should I use an active ingredient, and how should I introduce it? Could a medicine or hormonal change be contributing?

Questions people ask

Does oily skin need moisturiser?

Yes. A light, non-comedogenic moisturiser can reduce dryness from cleansing and active treatments without adding a heavy feel.

Will washing more often stop oiliness?

Not necessarily. Repeated washing can irritate the barrier, while a consistent gentle routine addresses comfort and clogged pores more safely.
