What should you know about gluster headache?

The word may be a spelling or hearing error, or it may be intended to describe a cluster headache, sinus-related pain, or another recurring pattern. Headache descriptions are more useful than the label: note where the pain is, whether it is throbbing or pressure-like, how quickly it began, how long it lasts, and what happens around it.

A headache can accompany common illnesses such as a Common Cold, allergic nasal inflammation, dehydration, or anxiety. Chronic Sinusitis may cause facial pressure and nasal symptoms, but facial pain alone does not establish that diagnosis. Most headaches have a non-dangerous explanation, yet a new or unusual pattern deserves assessment.

Rest in a quiet, dim room, drink fluids if you can, and write down timing, triggers, medicines, and associated symptoms. Use pain relief only as directed on the label or by a clinician, especially if you have other conditions or take regular medicines. Avoid repeatedly taking acute pain medicine without advice, as frequent use can maintain headaches.

If fever, cough, sore throat, or recent exposure is present, consider an appropriate assessment for infection, including COVID-19 when relevant. Heat Exhaustion can also cause headache with heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, or nausea.

Seek emergency help for a sudden severe headache, new weakness or numbness, trouble speaking, confusion, seizure, fainting, vision loss, stiff neck with fever, or a headache after a significant injury. Arrange medical review for a new persistent headache, repeated episodes, worsening pain, or headache with unexplained fever, vomiting, or weight change.
