GGPD blood test: what to know

Confirm exactly which blood test your clinician ordered and what the letters mean on the request form. Blood tests can assess blood cells, inflammation, organ function or other markers, depending on the panel. Results may help investigate anaemia, infection, fatigue, digestive illness or kidney problems, but an abnormal result is not automatically a diagnosis. Reference ranges vary between laboratories, and medicines, hydration and recent illness can influence results.

Ask whether fasting is required and follow the instructions provided. Bring your medicine and supplement list, mention recent illness, and tell the phlebotomist if blood tests make you feel faint. Ask when and how results will be reviewed.

Seek immediate help for severe bleeding, fainting that does not settle, breathing difficulty or signs of a serious allergic reaction. Contact a clinician promptly if the symptoms that led to testing worsen, including severe weakness, confusion, dehydration or difficulty breathing.
