How to get skin tags removed

A skin tag is a soft, flesh-coloured or slightly darker growth that may hang from a narrow stalk. It often appears where skin rubs against skin or clothing, such as the neck, underarms, eyelids, or groin. A typical tag is harmless, but a changing, firm, bleeding, or pigmented growth may need a different assessment. Removing a tag is usually optional unless it repeatedly catches, bleeds, or causes irritation.

A clinician examines the growth and discusses scarring, pigment change, bleeding, infection, and whether tissue should be sent for testing. Cryotherapy freezes the lesion; Electrosurgery uses controlled heat; Skin Tag Removal may involve sterile snipping or another minor technique. Avoid tying thread around a tag, cutting it at home, or using wart removers near the eyes or genitals.

Arrange an examination before removal if the growth changes quickly, becomes painful, bleeds without rubbing, develops an irregular colour, or does not resemble your other tags. After removal, seek care for increasing redness, pus, fever, uncontrolled bleeding, or worsening pain.
