Germinal B-cell lymphoma

B cells are immune cells. Germinal centres are places in lymph nodes where B cells mature and refine their response to infection. Lymphomas linked with this stage of B-cell development include several distinct diseases, so the pathology report matters. A swollen lymph node, fever, unexplained weight loss or night sweats can occur, but these symptoms also have non-cancer causes. A biopsy is used to identify the lymphoma, while blood tests and a PET-CT scan help assess where it is found.

A haematology team considers the exact lymphoma type, its extent, symptoms, molecular features and your general health. Treatment may include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy, or combinations. If lymphoma returns or does not respond as hoped, the team may discuss CAR T-cell therapy or an autologous stem cell transplant for selected people. These treatments require detailed preparation and monitoring, including attention to infection risk and recovery time. Keep a record of medicines, fevers and new symptoms between appointments.

Contact your cancer team urgently for fever, shaking chills, breathlessness, unusual bleeding, severe weakness, confusion or difficulty swallowing. Seek emergency help for chest pain, severe breathing trouble, fainting, or sudden neurological symptoms. During chemotherapy or cellular treatment, follow the team’s fever instructions because infection can worsen quickly even when symptoms initially seem mild.
