What should you know about Genesis Care radiotherapy?

Radiotherapy directs high-energy radiation at a defined treatment area. It may be used to treat cancer, reduce the chance of cancer returning in a treated area, shrink a tumour before another treatment, or ease symptoms caused by cancer. The radiation plan is designed from scans and measurements.

Treatment can be external, using a machine outside the body, or internal, using a source placed near or inside the target. The choice depends on the cancer, nearby organs, previous treatment, and the intended goal.

At the planning visit, the team may use imaging, mark the treatment position, and make an individual support device. Tell them about medicines, implanted devices, pregnancy or possible pregnancy, previous radiotherapy, and symptoms near the treatment area.

Attend each appointment in the planned position and follow skin-care instructions. Fatigue and skin changes can develop during or after treatment, while effects vary by the body area treated. Ask for help with nutrition, transport, work, or emotional support early.

Contact the radiotherapy team promptly for fever, severe pain, rapidly worsening skin damage, inability to drink, repeated vomiting, new confusion, or sudden weakness. Chest pain or severe breathing difficulty needs emergency help. Do not wait for the next appointment if symptoms are escalating.
