Gaviscon Double Action for acid reflux

Reflux occurs when stomach contents travel upwards into the food pipe. The alginate component in this type of product can form a layer over the stomach contents, while antacid ingredients reduce the acidity of material that moves upwards. Symptoms may be more noticeable after meals or when lying down. Night-time cough, chest discomfort or sleep disruption can occur with reflux, although each can have other explanations.

Read the label for the product you have, because formulations and directions can differ. Leave the recommended interval from other medicines when advised by the label or pharmacist. Smaller meals, staying upright after eating, and recording triggers can help identify patterns. If symptoms are frequent, ask about longer-term options instead of repeatedly adding doses. Call emergency services for new or severe chest tightness, especially with breathlessness, sweating, faintness, nausea, or pain spreading to the arm, back or jaw. Arrange prompt medical review for difficulty swallowing, food sticking, vomiting blood, black stools, persistent vomiting, or unexplained weight loss.
