The test analyses chemical patterns released into the bloodstream by some cancer cells. A result suggesting a cancer signal points to a possible tissue of origin; it does not prove that cancer is present. A result with no signal does not rule out cancer, because the test may not detect every cancer or an early tumour.

An unusual result needs follow-up arranged by a clinician. This may involve a consultation, examination, blood work or imaging chosen for the suspected area. A positive result can also create anxiety while investigations are completed, so ask what each next step is intended to clarify.

Discuss whether this test is suitable for you, especially if you have symptoms, a personal cancer history, a strong family history, or screening appointments due. Continue routine screening recommended for your age and risk profile. Tell the clinician about medicines, recent illness and any symptoms rather than using this test as a substitute for assessment.
