Fungal spots on back: what to know

A yeast-related rash may produce many small, similar bumps or discoloured patches that become more noticeable after sweating. Bacterial folliculitis often centres on hair follicles, while acne may include blackheads, whiteheads, deeper tender spots, and mixed lesion types. These clues overlap, and a person can have more than one process at once.

Record whether the spots itch or hurt, whether they follow exercise or occlusive clothing, and whether they leave colour changes. Do not squeeze them; pressure can worsen inflammation and marks.

Shower after heavy sweating, change damp clothing, and choose loose breathable layers. Use gentle, non-scrubbing cleansing and avoid oily or heavily fragranced products on the area. A clinician or pharmacist can help select treatment based on the pattern. Acne products, antibiotics, and antifungal products do not treat the same causes, so using several at once may irritate the skin and obscure the diagnosis.

Seek dermatology advice if spots spread, become painful, drain, scar, recur, or fail to settle with simple skin care. Prompt care is appropriate for fever, rapidly worsening redness, marked warmth, or a large tender area. Mention any immune condition, recent antibiotics, or new body products.
