What Should You Know About a Frozen Skin Tag?

A frozen skin tag may become red, swollen, dark, blistered, or crusted before it dries and separates from the skin. These changes can follow cryotherapy, which uses controlled cold to damage the targeted tissue. The treated spot may feel tender or irritated while it heals, and the surrounding skin can look different from the untreated skin for a while.

Leave a blister or crust intact unless your clinician gives different advice. Avoid home cutting, tying, burning, or applying irritating products to the remaining tag or healing skin. Contact the treating clinic if pain, warmth, swelling, or redness is increasing rather than settling, or if pus, fever, or a spreading rash develops. Seek prompt medical care for bleeding that does not stop with firm gentle pressure, severe pain, or rapidly worsening swelling. Arrange a review if the growth changes in shape or colour, repeatedly bleeds without being rubbed, becomes ulcerated, or remains after the expected healing period; another skin condition can resemble a skin tag.
