Frozen embryo transfer without medication

In an unmedicated or natural-cycle plan, your own hormones prepare the womb lining. The clinic tracks the cycle with ultrasound and may use blood tests or another method to identify ovulation. The embryo transfer is scheduled to match that ovulation and the embryo’s developmental stage.

This approach is not suitable for every cycle. Irregular ovulation, difficulty confirming timing, or lining findings may lead the team to recommend another preparation method or postpone the transfer. ‘Without medication’ may also mean no cycle-suppression or lining-building medicines while a clinic still prescribes support after ovulation, so clarify exactly what your plan includes.

Track bleeding and attend every monitoring visit because timing depends on changes during the cycle. Tell the clinic about delayed periods, unusual bleeding, new medicines, illness, or travel. Do not take hormones or supplements intended to alter ovulation unless the fertility team has approved them.

Request clear written instructions for the transfer date, activity after the procedure, and whether progesterone or another medicine begins after ovulation. Keep the pregnancy-test appointment even if you feel no different.

Contact the clinic promptly for heavy bleeding, severe pelvic pain, fever, faintness, breathing difficulty, or rapidly worsening abdominal swelling. Call if you miss monitoring, cannot identify the instructed medication plan, or believe ovulation has happened earlier or later than expected. Emergency symptoms need immediate medical help.

Ask what ‘without medication’ means in your plan, how ovulation will be confirmed, what happens if the cycle timing changes, and whether support is prescribed after ovulation. Confirm which symptoms are expected, who to call, and when testing takes place.
