Freckles on face from sun: what to know

Ultraviolet light can stimulate pigment production, making ephelides more noticeable on exposed facial skin. The nose, cheeks, temples, and forehead often receive repeated exposure, including during ordinary daily travel. Freckles may become lighter when exposure decreases, but other sun-related marks can stay darker. A cluster of similar flat spots may fit a freckle pattern; one lesion that stands apart, evolves, or feels different should not be labelled from a photograph alone.

Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen to the face and exposed ears, reapplying after sweating, swimming, or washing. A hat, sunglasses, and shade help reduce direct exposure.
