What should you know about folliculitis for months?

Ongoing bumps may reflect repeated shaving, friction, sweating, occlusive products, ingrown hairs, or an infection that needs a different approach. Some rashes resemble folliculitis without starting in follicles. A clinician may review the body sites involved, whether spots itch or hurt, any drainage, grooming habits, medicines, and what has already been tried.

Keep a simple record of flare timing, locations, products, shaving, sweat, and treatments. Pause picking and irritating scrubs; use gentle cleansing and clean towels. Avoid starting repeated courses of leftover medication. Depending on the examination, care may include trigger reduction, a topical antibiotic therapy, or antibiotics for skin infection; the treatment should match the suspected cause.

Book a dermatology or primary-care review when follicle-like bumps have continued for months, return quickly after treatment, scar, or leave dark marks. Seek prompt attention for fever, rapidly spreading redness, severe pain, large draining lesions, or swelling near the eyes. Persistent symptoms do not by themselves identify the cause, so examination is useful.
