What should you know about folliculitis dangerous?

Folliculitis starts around one or more hair follicles and may cause red bumps, pustules, itching, or tenderness. Some episodes remain superficial. Inflammation can extend into nearby tissue, or a deeper pocket of infection can develop, causing increasing pain, warmth, swelling, or drainage. A cluster on the scalp may also need evaluation because ongoing inflammation can affect hair follicles.

Keep the skin clean and dry, use a warm compress for comfort, and avoid shaving, friction, picking, and shared towels. Do not open a lump yourself. Arrange a clinical review if symptoms are worsening or recurring; treatment may include topical antibiotic therapy, antibiotics for skin infection, drainage, or another approach depending on the examination.

Seek urgent medical help if redness is spreading quickly, pain is severe or out of proportion, a deep lump is enlarging, or you develop fever, chills, confusion, faintness, or marked weakness. Prompt assessment is also wise for facial or eye-area swelling, extensive scalp involvement, or symptoms in someone with reduced immunity. A small stable patch without these warning signs can usually be booked for routine advice.
