Folliculitis caused by yeast

Yeast-related folliculitis often produces many small, similar-looking itchy bumps. The upper chest, back, shoulders, hairline, and other areas covered by clothing may be affected. Heat, sweating, oily products, and a disrupted skin barrier can encourage the yeast to multiply. Unlike some bacterial folliculitis, this pattern may not improve with antibiotics, so an examination helps distinguish it from acne, ingrown hairs, or another rash.

Shower after heavy sweating, change damp clothing, and choose loose breathable fabrics. Cleanse gently and avoid scrubs, picking, and heavy oils on the affected skin. Do not start leftover antibiotics because they may not address a yeast cause. A clinician may recommend an antifungal wash or medicine after checking the distribution and appearance. Follow the recommended contact time and frequency rather than applying products more often.

Book a dermatology visit if the bumps persist, recur, spread across the trunk, or cause significant itching.
