Folliculitis on the bum: treatment options

Treatment for folliculitis on the bum starts with reducing friction and moisture, then uses prescribed topical or oral medicine when indicated. Buttock bumps can be tender, itchy, or pus-filled, and may be worsened by sitting, sweating, tight clothes, or repeated hair removal.

Folliculitis involves inflammation around hair follicles. On the buttocks, it may resemble acne or rough, uniform bumps, but deep pain, drainage, or a single enlarging lump can suggest a different or more advanced problem. Ingrown hairs can also cause local bumps after shaving or waxing.
