What should you know about flexible hysteroscope?

The flexible tip can follow the natural path through the cervix while fluid gently opens the uterine cavity for a clearer view. A clinician may use it to investigate unusual bleeding, examine the uterine lining, or guide a small procedure. The approach and any anaesthesia depend on the planned examination and your health.

A hysteroscopy may identify a polyp, fibroid projecting into the cavity, scar tissue, or another explanation for symptoms. Seeing an abnormality does not by itself determine whether it is serious; tissue may need laboratory assessment.

Ask how to prepare, whether you should change medicines, and what pain relief or anaesthesia is available. Tell the team if pregnancy is possible, you have a pelvic infection, or cervical procedures have been difficult before. Plan for the advised recovery period and follow instructions about bathing, sex, and activity.

Mild cramping and light spotting can occur. Seek urgent advice for heavy bleeding, fever, worsening pelvic pain, foul-smelling discharge, faintness, or difficulty passing urine. If a tissue sample was taken, ask when and how results will be communicated.

Ask what the hysteroscopy is intended to find, whether a biopsy or treatment might happen during the same visit, and what alternatives exist if the examination cannot be completed comfortably.
