Flank pain with normal urinalysis: what it means

Urinalysis can look for findings such as blood, inflammation, or signs that support a urinary infection, but results depend on timing, hydration, and the condition being tested. A kidney stone or infection may not always produce the same urine findings. Pain that changes with twisting, lifting, coughing, or pressure may fit a body-wall source. Other possibilities include spinal or rib irritation and problems near the digestive or reproductive organs. The result is one part of the assessment, not a diagnosis on its own.

Share the full result and symptom timeline with a clinician, especially if the pain continues or returns. Record its location, intensity, triggers, relation to meals or urination, and associated symptoms. The clinician may repeat urine testing, examine the back and abdomen, or consider imaging based on the pattern. Avoid self-starting antibiotics simply because the pain is near a kidney, and use only pain relief that is appropriate for your medical history.
