A new fever may reflect another infection, an incomplete recovery, or a separate cause; symptoms alone cannot confirm dengue. Chills, headache, muscle aches and joint pain can occur with many illnesses. Easy bruising or unusual bleeding is more concerning because dengue can affect clotting and blood vessels. Your clinician may review the original illness, recovery pattern, medicines, hydration and travel or mosquito exposure, then decide whether examination or blood tests are needed.

Rest, drink fluids regularly and record temperature, urine output and changes in energy.
