What should you know about an FBE blood test?

FBE is another name used for a full blood count. Red-cell measures include haemoglobin and cell size, which can help investigate anaemia. White-cell patterns may accompany infection or inflammation, and platelet levels help clinicians consider how blood clotting may be affected. The result needs context: a reading outside the laboratory range may be temporary or may need further investigation, rather than identifying one condition on its own.

Check the appointment instructions and mention all medicines, supplements, recent illness, and pregnancy if relevant. Unless you are told otherwise for an additional test, drink water normally and eat as usual. Blood is collected through a needle, and brief tenderness or a small bruise can occur. Keep the dressing on for the time advised and ask how your report will be communicated.

Arrange medical advice if you have ongoing fatigue, fever, repeated infections, bleeding, or unexplained bruises, especially if these symptoms are becoming worse.
