Fatigue during your period

Short answer
Fatigue during a period is low energy that can accompany hormonal changes, pain, sleep disruption or menstrual blood loss.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

- Persistent fatigue or unusually heavy bleeding
Why periods may leave you tired
Cramps, headaches, mood changes and poor sleep can drain energy around menstruation. Heavy or prolonged bleeding may contribute to iron deficiency and Anaemia, particularly when tiredness is paired with dizziness, breathlessness or paleness. A predictable mild dip that settles after bleeding may differ from exhaustion that lasts through the cycle.
Period fatigue does not identify one cause by itself. Pregnancy, thyroid problems, infection, stress, low mood and sleep disorders can also affect energy. Track bleeding, pain, sleep and fatigue so a clinician can see whether the pattern is cyclical and whether further assessment is needed.
Practical support
Prioritise sleep, gentle movement and regular meals containing iron-rich foods such as beans, lentils, leafy greens or meat if you eat it. Drink fluids and use a heat pad for cramps if it is comfortable. Record how often you change period products and whether bleeding interrupts activities. Do not take iron or pain medicine routinely without checking the product and your personal medical history.
When to get checked
Book an appointment if fatigue is new, worsening, present outside your period or affecting work and daily activities. Seek prompt care for very heavy bleeding, fainting, severe pelvic pain, breathlessness, chest pain, fever or possible pregnancy with pain or bleeding. Emergency help is appropriate for collapse or severe weakness.
Questions to bring
Ask whether your bleeding pattern could cause Anaemia, whether blood tests or treatment for cramps are appropriate, and whether contraception or another condition may be affecting your cycle.
