What should you know about fat transfer marionette lines?

Marionette lines run from the corners of the mouth toward the chin. Their appearance can reflect changes in skin elasticity, facial volume, movement, and the support of nearby tissues. Fat transfer addresses selected volume loss; it does not erase every wrinkle or correct all causes of lower-face change.

The clinician maps both sides and considers the surrounding cheek, mouth, and chin. Swelling and bruising can temporarily deepen or disguise the lines. The eventual appearance depends on how the transferred fat settles and on the skin and tissue structure around it.

Describe whether the lines appear at rest, with expression, or both. Discuss previous filler or threads, medicines, allergies, smoking, dental concerns, and healing history. Ask whether volume restoration alone matches your goal or whether another approach may address skin laxity or movement more directly. Follow instructions about pressure, cleansing, exercise, and review while the area settles.

Seek prompt advice for pain that is worsening, spreading redness, heat, discharge, fever, or swelling that becomes increasingly one-sided. Urgent care is needed for breathing difficulty, collapse, severe weakness, or sudden visual changes.
