Fallopian tube pregnancy test

A positive urine or blood test confirms pregnancy hormone activity, not its location. To assess for an ectopic pregnancy, clinicians combine symptoms, examination, blood hormone testing over time, and transvaginal ultrasound. Very early in pregnancy, an ultrasound may not yet show a pregnancy inside the uterus, so follow-up testing can be needed. One-sided pain or bleeding deserves attention even when the home test result is unclear.

Take a home test after a missed period or when pregnancy is possible, following the kit instructions. Contact a maternity or gynaecology service about a positive result with pain or bleeding. Bring the date of your last period, test result, symptoms, and any history of ectopic pregnancy or tube surgery. Assessment may lead to monitoring, medicine, or surgery depending on findings and safety.

Go to emergency care for severe or worsening abdominal pain, shoulder-tip pain, fainting, weakness, heavy vaginal bleeding, or marked dizziness during a possible pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy can rupture and cause internal bleeding, so do not wait for a home test to become strongly positive if serious symptoms are present.

Ask which tests are needed, when repeat blood work or ultrasound should occur, and what symptoms mean you should return immediately. If surgery is discussed, ask about the approach, recovery, and future fertility.
