Fallopian tube pain during ovulation

Ovulation can cause one-sided lower abdominal discomfort when an ovary releases an egg. The sensation may seem to come from the tube, groin, or pelvis because these structures sit close together. It may last briefly or continue for part of the day. Similar pain can also occur with an ovarian cyst or endometriosis, especially when it recurs, interferes with activity, or is not tied to the middle of the cycle.

Note when the pain begins, which side it affects, how long it lasts, and whether bleeding, discharge, fever, nausea, or urinary symptoms occur. Rest, gentle heat, and fluids may be reasonable for mild familiar discomfort. Before taking an over-the-counter pain medicine, check that it is suitable if pregnancy is possible or you have another health condition. Arrange a clinical review if the pattern changes or the pain keeps returning.

Seek urgent care for sudden intense pelvic pain, fainting, marked dizziness, heavy bleeding, fever, repeated vomiting, or pain with a positive pregnancy test. These symptoms can signal a problem requiring prompt examination, including a pregnancy outside the uterus. A clinician may use an examination, pregnancy test, or ultrasound to clarify the cause.
