Face tissue for oily skin: what to know

Short answer
Face tissue can absorb surface oil temporarily, but it does not reduce oil production or treat the causes of oily skin and breakouts.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

- Gentle cleansing, moisturiser, and sunscreen
What oily skin means
Oily skin reflects increased sebum on the surface. It may make the face look shiny and can coexist with blocked pores or inflammatory spots, but shine alone does not establish a skin disease. Hormonal changes, genetics, heat, stress, and some products can all influence oiliness.
Persistent redness, greasy scale around the nose or eyebrows, or recurring spots may point to a condition such as acne, hormonal acne, or seborrheic dermatitis. A tissue only removes oil that is already on the surface.
How to use tissue safely
Press clean, soft tissue or blotting paper gently onto shiny areas, then lift it away. Repeated rubbing can irritate skin and spread bacteria from the hands. Wash with a mild cleanser, moisturise with a non-comedogenic formula, and use sunscreen suited to your skin type.
Avoid harsh scrubbing, alcohol-heavy products, and washing repeatedly to chase shine; these can leave the barrier irritated. If clogged pores or spots continue, a clinician can discuss treatments matched to the pattern. Isotretinoin treatment is a prescription option for selected severe or persistent acne, not a routine remedy for ordinary shine.
When to seek care
Book a dermatology assessment for painful deep spots, scarring, sudden severe oiliness, persistent facial redness, or greasy scale that does not settle with gentle care. Seek prompt help for swelling, rapidly spreading redness, or a painful rash involving the eyes.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your oiliness is occurring with acne or dermatitis, which cleanser and moisturiser fit your barrier, and whether a leave-on treatment could help blocked pores. Mention new medicines, menstrual or hormonal changes, and products that preceded the change.

Questions people ask
Does blotting tissue make oily skin worse?
Gentle pressing is unlikely to do so, but vigorous rubbing and frequent handling can irritate the skin.
Should oily skin skip moisturiser?
No. A lightweight non-comedogenic moisturiser can support the skin barrier without adding a heavy feel.
