Face skin dandruff

Flaking may affect the eyebrows, sides of the nose, hairline, ears, beard area, or eyelids. It can come with itch, redness, greasy scale, or dry-looking flakes. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common explanation, but contact dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, and infection can look similar. Facial dandruff is not caused by poor hygiene, and scratching can create cracks that become sore.

Wash gently with lukewarm water and avoid fragranced scrubs, harsh cleansers, and picking at scale. A clinician or pharmacist may recommend a medicated shampoo used carefully on affected hair-bearing areas, or a topical antifungal treatment when appropriate. Keep products away from the eyes unless specifically prescribed. Moisturise dry areas with a bland formula and rinse thoroughly after treatment. If scalp symptoms occur too, mention them because the pattern can guide diagnosis.

Arrange a review when flaking persists, spreads, repeatedly returns, or fails to respond to suitable treatment. Seek prompt care for marked swelling, pus, painful cracks, fever, hair loss in patches, or eye involvement. A rapidly worsening rash after a new product may need immediate advice.

Ask whether the pattern fits seborrheic dermatitis, whether scalp dandruff is also present, and which medicated shampoo or antifungal is safe near your face.
