These bumps are often small, skin-coloured or yellowish, and may have a central dip. They commonly appear on oilier facial areas. Their appearance can overlap with other bumps, including some skin cancers, so a new or changing lesion should not be diagnosed from a photograph alone. Picking, squeezing, or scraping can cause bleeding and inflammation.

If the bumps do not bother you, observation is reasonable after a clinician has identified them. For cosmetic concerns, a dermatologist may discuss electrosurgery or CO2 laser resurfacing. These procedures heat or remove targeted tissue and can cause temporary redness, crusting, colour change, or scarring. Follow aftercare carefully, protect healing skin from sunlight, and do not use home extraction tools. Treatment may not prevent new oil-gland bumps from appearing later.

Book an assessment for a bump that grows, bleeds without clear injury, ulcerates, becomes persistently painful, or changes colour or shape. Seek earlier review if many lesions appear suddenly or if a spot looks different from the others.
