Eye pain with headache: what to know

Long screen sessions, an uncorrected vision problem, poor sleep, stress, or tight muscles around the face can cause headache with tired or aching eyes. Dehydration and heat exposure may add thirst, weakness, dizziness, or dark urine. A blocked nose, facial pressure, or a cold can refer discomfort around the eyes; Allergic Rhinitis and Chronic Sinusitis are possible contexts. Fever, cough, sore throat, or body aches can occur with Common Cold or COVID-19. The symptom combination does not establish a diagnosis.

Rest in a dim, quiet room, take breaks from close work, and drink fluids if you may have become dehydrated. Eat regularly, loosen tight headwear, and use a cool cloth over closed eyes. Check whether a new medicine, missed glasses, heat exposure, or prolonged screen use preceded the episode. If fever or respiratory symptoms are present, follow local infection guidance and limit close contact while unwell. Seek emergency care for a sudden, extreme headache, confusion, fainting, weakness, trouble speaking, repeated vomiting, a stiff neck with fever, or a new loss of vision. Prompt assessment is also needed for severe eye pain, a red eye with halos, or pain after injury. Arrange a medical review when headaches recur, steadily worsen, wake you from sleep, or do not improve with rest and fluids.
