What should you know about eye fine lines?

Fine lines may be visible only when smiling or squinting, or they may remain at rest. Crow's feet sit at the outer eye corners; lines under the eyes may be made more visible by dryness or a hollow contour. Sun exposure can affect collagen and make texture changes more apparent. Fine lines are usually a cosmetic skin change, not an emergency.

The eye area is easily irritated. Strong products, rubbing, or applying treatment too close to the eye can cause burning, peeling, or watering. A clinician can distinguish ordinary texture from eczema, allergy, infection, or a changing lesion.

Use a gentle cleanser, moisturiser, and daily broad-spectrum sunscreen around the eyes without getting product into the eyes. Sunglasses can reduce squinting in bright light. Introduce one active product at a time, keep it away from the lash line, and stop if there is persistent stinging or swelling.

If lines remain bothersome, a qualified clinician may discuss microneedling, Botox for movement-related lines, or another approach based on skin thickness and the exact location. Results and downtime vary, and treatment near the eye should be performed by someone trained in the area.

Seek assessment for a line over a sore, bleeding, crusting, or changing spot; persistent redness or scaling; sudden eyelid swelling; eye pain; or changes in vision. Stop a new eye product and seek care if swelling, blistering, or watering continues after washing it off. These features need an examination rather than cosmetic treatment.
