What should you know about eviva biopsy needle?

Eviva is used during a breast biopsy, commonly when a mammogram shows a calcification or another area that needs closer examination. The clinician numbs the skin, positions the device using imaging, and uses gentle suction to guide tissue into the needle. A marker may be left at the sampling site so it can be found on later imaging.

A pathologist examines the tissue for benign changes, atypical cells, or cancer. The procedure can provide more tissue than a simple needle sample, but the result still needs to be interpreted with the original imaging and examination. The device does not by itself determine what the breast finding means.

Tell the breast team about blood-thinning medicines, allergies, bleeding problems, pregnancy, and implanted devices. Wear comfortable clothing and follow instructions about medicines. Afterward, keep the dressing in place as advised, use a cold pack for short periods if recommended, and avoid strenuous upper-body activity for the time specified by the clinic.

Bruising, tenderness, or a small amount of swelling can occur. Ask when the pathology result will be available and whether the marker requires any special care. If the result shows a condition needing treatment, your team may discuss surgery, chemotherapy, or additional tumour testing.

Contact the clinic promptly for bleeding that does not settle with firm pressure, increasing redness or warmth, drainage, fever, severe swelling, or pain that is getting worse rather than easing. Seek emergency help for fainting, chest pain, or difficulty breathing.

Why is this area being biopsied, and which imaging method will guide the needle? Will a marker be placed? Which medicines should I pause? How much activity is safe afterward? When will the pathology report be discussed? Could further testing, such as immunohistochemistry or genomic tumour profiling, be useful?
