What should you know about EMG biofeedback device?

Short answer
An EMG biofeedback device senses electrical activity from a muscle and turns it into visual or audible feedback during rehabilitation exercises.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How the device works
A therapist places adhesive sensors on the skin over selected muscles. The device detects the muscle’s electrical signal and shows changes on a screen or through sound. You can then see whether a muscle is switching on, relaxing, or working harder during a specific movement. The feedback is information, not an electrical shock and not a diagnosis by itself.
The approach can help when a muscle is difficult to recruit after pain, injury, surgery, or prolonged inactivity. It may also be used to reduce unnecessary muscle tension. Sensor placement, skin preparation, and the task being practised affect the reading, so a trained clinician interprets it alongside your examination.
Using it in rehabilitation
Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the treatment area, and tell the therapist about skin sensitivity or adhesive reactions. During a session, focus on the movement goal rather than chasing the biggest signal. Your therapist may pair the display with exercises that retrain timing, strength, posture, or relaxation.
Practice between visits only as prescribed. Feedback should support active exercise, not replace it. The therapist can adjust the target as control improves and may stop using the device when you can perform the movement accurately without the visual cue.
When to seek care
Tell your therapist if sensors cause a rash, burning, or persistent irritation, and remove them according to the session instructions. Seek medical advice for new or worsening weakness, loss of sensation, severe pain, or swelling rather than trying to correct those symptoms with biofeedback alone. Report unusual symptoms during exercise immediately.
Questions for your doctor
Ask which muscle and movement are being assessed, what the display means, how often feedback will be used, and how progress will be measured without the device. Check whether any skin condition or implanted equipment affects the planned setup.

Questions people ask
Does an EMG biofeedback device stimulate the muscle?
Standard EMG biofeedback records muscle activity and presents information; it does not deliver the electrical stimulation used by some other therapy devices.
Is using the device uncomfortable?
The sensors are placed on the skin and sessions are generally focused on movement practice. Adhesive sensitivity or discomfort should be reported so the setup can be changed.
