What should you know about eczema fingertips peeling?

Atopic dermatitis on the fingers can cause itch, redness, roughness, tiny blisters, peeling, and painful fissures. Frequent handwashing, detergents, solvents, gloves, and trapped sweat can weaken the barrier. Peeling can also occur with other hand conditions, so a rash that is one-sided, sharply bordered, very painful, or not improving deserves examination.

Wash with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, rinse thoroughly, and apply a thick fragrance-free emollient after every wash. Wear protective gloves for wet or chemical work, with a soft cotton layer if sweating is a problem; change damp gloves promptly. Do not pull loose skin. Cover painful cracks with a clean dressing and avoid picking, which can delay repair and introduce infection.

Seek assessment when peeling continues, interferes with gripping, or keeps returning despite barrier care. Get prompt help for increasing pain, warmth, swelling, pus, spreading redness, or crusting. Sudden fingertip swelling with hives, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty after exposure needs urgent attention.
