The operating system helps the machine accept patient details, process electrical signals, show waveforms, print or save a report, and send information to another clinical system when that connection is available. Software can also produce an automated analysis or alert. These prompts support workflow but do not replace a clinician’s assessment, because symptoms and medical context can change the meaning of a tracing.

Check that your name and date of birth are entered correctly before the recording is saved. Tell staff if the displayed patient details are wrong, the tracing freezes, or a report appears incomplete. Keep still and follow electrode instructions, since software cannot reliably remove all movement or electrical interference. Ask how your result will be stored and who is responsible for reviewing it.

Get emergency help for new chest pressure, marked breathlessness, fainting, collapse, or a fast or irregular heartbeat with severe weakness. A software warning, a missing report, or a technical problem should not be used to judge urgency. Seek clinical advice for recurring palpitations, dizziness, or unexplained tiredness so the assessment can include more than an automated reading.

Ask whether the automated interpretation was confirmed by a clinician, whether the recording was transmitted successfully, and when the final report will be available. If your symptoms were absent during the test, ask whether another form of monitoring is suitable.
