What should you know about earache and headache on left side?

The ear, jaw, teeth, throat, and sinuses share nearby nerves, so discomfort can be felt in more than one place. Congestion from Allergic Rhinitis, Common Cold, or Chronic Sinusitis may create pressure around the face and ear. Headache can also accompany dehydration, Heat Exhaustion, a viral illness such as COVID-19, or anxiety-related muscle tension. The left-sided location alone does not identify the cause.

Rest in a cool, quiet place, drink fluids if you can, and note when the pain began, its severity, and any fever or congestion. Avoid inserting anything into the ear. Follow the label for any usual pain medicine and check with a pharmacist if you have other illnesses or take regular medicines. Do not swim or drive if dizziness or balance problems are present.

Seek urgent help for a sudden severe headache, confusion, fainting, weakness, facial drooping, trouble speaking, stiff neck, repeated vomiting, or new vision problems. Prompt review is also needed for ear discharge, swelling behind the ear, sudden hearing change, high fever, or worsening one-sided pain. Fever with severe muscle aches after mosquito exposure also warrants assessment because Dengue Fever can present with headache and fever.

Tell the clinician whether pain changes with chewing, swallowing, movement, or pressure on the outer ear. Ask whether your nose, throat, teeth, jaw, and ears need examination, and which symptoms should trigger immediate reassessment.
