What should you know about dupilumab conjunctivitis?

Dupilumab can be associated with conjunctivitis, also called pink eye, during treatment. Symptoms may affect one or both eyes and can include a gritty feeling, burning, watering, crusting, or blurred vision from tears. Eye discharge and red eye are useful details to report. Light sensitivity, marked pain, or a change in vision needs more urgent attention because these features can involve structures deeper than the surface of the eye.

Do not stop or change dupilumab without speaking with the clinician who prescribed it. Avoid rubbing your eyes, wash your hands frequently, and do not share towels, cosmetics, or eye drops. A clinician can examine the eye and decide whether lubricating drops, an anti-inflammatory eye treatment, or another approach is suitable. Antibiotic treatment is not automatically needed because not every case is caused by bacteria.

Arrange a GP consultation or contact your prescribing team when redness, irritation, discharge, or watering does not settle, keeps returning, or interferes with daily activities. Seek urgent eye assessment for significant pain, pronounced light sensitivity, reduced or blurred vision that does not clear, injury, or swelling around the eye. Get immediate help if vision is suddenly affected or the eye becomes intensely painful.

Ask whether your symptoms fit conjunctivitis, whether dupilumab should continue on its current schedule, and which eye products are safe for you. Mention contact-lens use, discharge, light sensitivity, vision changes, and any previous eye disease.
