Does turf toe cause toe pain?

Short answer
Toe Pain is a common presentation of Turf Toe. It usually affects the joint at the base of the big toe and may increase when the toe bends upward or when you push off to walk.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What this injury can involve
Turf toe is an injury to the soft tissues beneath and around the big-toe joint. It can happen when the toe is forced upward while the foot is fixed, or after repeated powerful push-off. Swelling, bruising, tenderness, reduced push-off, and difficulty moving the toe may accompany the pain. Toe pain has other causes as well, including a fracture, joint inflammation, or an infection, so an examination may be needed after an injury.
What to do at home
Stop the activity that caused the pain and protect the foot with supportive footwear. Rest from running and jumping, raise the foot when swollen, and use a wrapped cold pack for short periods. Avoid forcing the big toe upward. A clinician or physiotherapist can advise on taping, a stiff-soled shoe, and a gradual return to sport based on your movement and tenderness.
When to seek care
Get medical assessment if you cannot walk normally, the toe looks deformed, swelling or bruising is substantial, or pain follows a forceful impact. Seek prompt care for increasing redness, warmth, drainage, or fever. Persistent pain, reduced toe movement, or difficulty pushing off deserves review even if the original injury seemed mild.
Questions for your doctor
Could I have a fracture or a more serious ligament injury? Should I use a stiff-soled shoe or tape the toe? Which exercises and walking distances are safe while it heals?
