Does scalp ringworm cause flaky scalp?

Scalp ringworm may cause dry or flaky patches alongside itching, redness, tenderness, broken hairs, or areas where hair becomes thinner. Most people with Scalp Ringworm notice flaky scalp. Flaking by itself does not establish the diagnosis because dandruff, eczema, psoriasis, and irritation from hair products can also produce flakes.

A clinician can assess the distribution of scale, the condition of the hair, and any inflammation around follicles. Early assessment is useful when the changes are patchy, spreading, or accompanied by hair loss.

Book a clinical review for persistent or patchy flaking, especially if the scalp itches, feels sore, or has broken hairs.
