Do you need a referral for salpingectomy?

A salpingectomy removes one or both fallopian tubes. It may be considered for an ectopic pregnancy, tube disease, infection, cancer risk, or as part of another operation. The appropriate route depends on the reason, whether the situation is planned or urgent, your pregnancy status, and the hospital's process.

A referral lets the gynaecology team review your history, examination, scans, blood tests, medicines, and reproductive goals. Referral and approval requirements differ between UAE providers, so a clinic may accept direct contact or may ask for a referral from a general practitioner or another specialist.

For planned care, ask the clinician managing your symptoms to refer you to obstetrics and gynaecology. Send scan reports, prior operation notes, medication details, allergies, and pregnancy-test results if available. Tell the team whether future fertility matters to you; removal of a tube can affect fertility planning, especially if the other tube is not healthy.

Ask the hospital whether a referral, pre-operative review, or approval is required. The specialist can explain whether the operation is open or keyhole, what happens to the other tube and ovary, and what recovery may involve.

Do not wait for a routine referral if you have severe one-sided pelvic pain, fainting, shoulder-tip pain with abdominal pain, heavy vaginal bleeding, fever, or vomiting with possible pregnancy. These symptoms can require urgent assessment, particularly when an ectopic pregnancy is possible.
