What should you know about diverticulitis in stomach?

Diverticulitis involves inflamed pouches in the wall of the large intestine. The stomach is a separate organ, and pain high in the abdomen may relate to the stomach, gallbladder, pancreas, bowel or another problem. Some people describe abdominal discomfort broadly as stomach pain, so the words alone cannot identify the source.

Arrange a GP Consultation if pain persists, returns, or comes with fever, vomiting or changed bowel movements. Note when it began, its location, severity, triggers, stool changes, urine symptoms and medicines. This information can help the clinician consider stomach and non-stomach causes.

Ask which organs could explain the pain, whether you need an examination or tests, which medicines are safe with your health history, and what changes should prompt urgent review. Mention pregnancy possibility and any previous bowel or stomach diagnosis.
