What should you know about diode laser 405 nm?

The wavelength describes the colour region of the light emitted by the diode. At 405 nm, the light is in the violet-blue part of the visible spectrum. Wavelength alone does not tell you the dose, pulse pattern, spot size, cooling or treatment result. Those details, together with the target and the skin’s response, shape the clinical plan.

Do not assume that a 405 nm device is interchangeable with a commonly marketed diode hair-removal system. The operator should explain the intended use, evidence for that indication in their practice and how the settings are selected for you.

During consultation, disclose recent tanning, pigment disorders, light sensitivity, medicines, active infection, cold sores and a history of abnormal scarring. Ask whether the area should be shaved or left untouched, and follow the clinic’s instructions about skincare and sun avoidance.

Use the eye protection supplied for the specific wavelength. Tell the clinician immediately about unusual pain, intense heat or a smell of burning skin. Follow written aftercare and avoid picking at crusts or rubbing a treated area.

Contact the provider if redness, swelling, pain, blistering or crusting is worsening, or if a new colour change is not settling as expected. Seek urgent care for eye injury symptoms, facial swelling, breathing difficulty or severe pain. Prompt review can help distinguish expected irritation from a treatment injury.
